Landing Page Optimization – Targeted Headlines Alone Can Easily Double Your Conversion Rate

Here is a stunning fact! Only around 25% of Google AdWords advertisers use customized landing pages despite the fact that they significantly boost conversions. Why are 75% of advertisers leaving so much money on the table?

I have a couple of ideas why this is happenging. First of all, lots of Google AdWords advertisers are small businesses and for a small business, creating new landing pages and tracking the specific results and performance of landing pages used to be really hard.

Second of all, many people find it hard to believe that just changing a headline on a page can easily boost the performance of a landing page by over 100%!

Here is a test that we ran for a Google campaign on Meditation.
Original Headline:

"Did You Know That Meditating Just 15 Minutes a Day Could Change Your Life?"

New Headline:

"These Meditation Exercises will Transform Your Life. I Guarantee It"

The headline appeared in the page below.

The results: A 115% improvement in the sign-up rate!

How long did it take us to create this landing page test? About 2 minutes! In other words, in less than two minutes we boosted our ROI of our Google Adwords meditation campaign by 149%!

Seriously - if you're not doing split testing on your landing pages, now's the time to start. We recommend using Google Website Optimizer which is a free tool within your adwords account.
