Google AdWords Tip: How a Killer Word Boosted the Click-Through-Rate by 30% and the Conversion Rate by 65%

I just wanted to share a killer new Google AdWords tip with you that I thought you might like to try. This one is a “power word” that has worked won­ders for one of our Google AdWords cam­paigns. What is this killer word?

The secret AdWords word that is doing amaz­ingly well for us is “killer”

Just take a look at the detailed results that we got below:

The only change between the two ads is that we added the word “killer” to the copy of the win­ning ad. In fact, we added it twice. The result? This Google AdWords tip really worked for this Ad Group. We saw a 30% boost in the click-through-rate of the ads that con­tained the key­word killer. Not only that, the con­ver­sion rate (sign-up rate) also went up by 65%!

So, we are now get­ting 30% more vis­i­tors and 65% more leads! Will this work every time? Of course not but find­ing power words and test­ing them is well worth it. The biggest sur­prise of this test was the increase in the con­ver­sion rate that we saw. A lot of time power words can get you more clicks but watch out and make sure that the new vis­i­tors also convert.

NOTE: This Google ad uses con­tent match­ing which is why the CTR appears rel­a­tively low. The CTR for the search net­work for the ads as between 2–4%.
