Email Magic: How it took Me only 1.25 Days to make a Month’s worth of Income

January 25th, 2008 by Mike W. Read more about Email Marketing

Back near the end of last year we ran an extremely successful email promotion that made us a boat load of money. In just a few days it tallied up the normal monthly profit.

And it only took about 1.25 days to research, devise, and execute.

I first blogged about it here, but below is a short (12min) video explaining what I did for each step of the way. Play it out now to find out how you can use this technique to boost your own profits. The themes are “get richer” and “food.”

Below the video you’ll find swipe files that you are free to use. Watch the video first to find out how to properly wield them.

Lastly, use this graphic to remember the overall picture as you watch. It will help.

Please leave your feedback in the comments. It was my maiden voyage with a video training like this so I’d love to hear how I can make it better for you. Should we keep doing these? Were you glued to the edge of your seat or did you fall asleep?

And one last request, include with your comment one way you can use this technique to boost your profits for January. The best commenter gets bonus karma points to use this weekend.

Let us know what you think and we’ll build from here.

Congrats on the good results… and thanks for posting the sample emails and video here, that’s some great content.

  2. Jason

Sounds terrific but it needs to be tested. Sometimes even the best-sounding schemes do not work. I’ll try this with my list and let you know if it works or not. As President Reagan said: “Trust but Verify” :-) ) However, having said all that, many thanks for taking the time and posting a blog entry this intelligent, detailed, and straight forward. I especially appreciate the swap files. I’ll be revisiting this blog frequently for sure.

    Jason,

The title tells you the results I got when I did this (I think I mentioned it in the video also). Using this method I got 1 month’s worth of revenue in only 1 week.

For best results, I recommend using it in conjunction with a nice promotion or offer. The email technique (and gift) will warm up your list and then the promo will seal the deal.

  4. texthunter

Like the technique, and will try it with my new site, http://www.clientranger.co.uk

First of all, I thorougly enjoyed the video tutorial. Nicely done!

Secondly, I appreciate a number of elements in your chain of contact… the focus on planning is wonderful — so many clients I’ve worked with have abbreviated processes of two email contacts: announcement and reminder. I’ve used the “appetizer” with one client, and the reception to the second email was phenomenal, so I know it works.

The fact that your gift PDF worked for you, with the inclusion of the “gift within a gift” offer, was an excellent touch. Adding that viral “share” might have proven very successful, huh? Next time you’ll remember to do that — and let us know how well it work, ok?

What I’ve learned in email marketing campaigns could fill a large room, but underlying all that knowledge is the realization that every list is different. Know your list, fine tune your campaigns, and always be willing to try new things!

Loved the post, and the video. I’ve bookmarked your blog, and will return to learn more from your creative thinking.

    Thank you!

Great information, Mike! I enjoyed the Video and I will definitely be giving this a shot very soon!

    Thanks,

This technique when used can not only boost your marketshare, but also push / incite others ‘exposed’ to it to want your product.

Do not forget to add ‘psychological’ words to incite your buyers / readers but also remember to ensure that the downloadable s/w is worth ‘acquiring’ online and NOT FOUND ELSEWHERE, and that it is exactly what your buyers want.

Do not forget also to give the little something extra — for example, a discount coupon to your next conference or something you can give which is of value that will keep your audience happy to talk about your product / services — word of mouth marketing is viral enough.

Last, but not least — apply to everything — not just promoting of your e-books — it works equally well in traditional brick and mortar business, offline.

Always, always, whether you may realise it or not — some audience{s} may have forgotten clicking on that link — so remind them gently, and always, always offer them an opt-out link just in case they want to opt-out from receiving future emails or reminders. Even gentle reminders sometimes can ‘incite’ people to trash them as ‘spam’.

    Best Regards,

    AA

Mike, wow, short and sweet and to the point. Also, you reiterated important steps for emphasis and as a reminder, and you were really easy to follow.

In a few short words, you were able to convey to me how you did what you did, and the repetition made it more memorable.

Now… whom shall I email my test swipes, to? Hmmm… Golly, I don’t have a huge list.

And, I will have to get creative and come up with an awesome ebook and free gift that promotes some more consumables.

Now, where is that ebook that you spoke of? And what was the free gift that sold even more for you? Of course I want to know.

Thank you for this info, it’s really some of the best info out here that’s easily do-able right away. You have me as a loyal follower, but I’m not so sure I will be able to do what you have done.

you obviously have a much greater gift writing ebooks, perceiving what people need and want, and getting a nice email list of folks to contact.

But, I want to try! I’m going to have to give it a go and will let you know what happens, if you want!

Thank you, this blog is awesome.

I wasn’t bored, but I did think the pace was a bit slow… and perhaps there was too much repetition for a not-really-rocket-surgery concept. I think you could cut 4–5 minutes, and in doing so make it seem more “exciting” and/or “high energy.”

I like the method, though, and the Black Friday timing for it was brilliant!

    Hi Mike,
This isn’t rocket science but it is so unfortunate that many marketers don;t really know the real power of e-mail marketing. It has been proved again and again that if used correctly, e-mail marketing is more profitable than any other customer acquisition or retention tools!
The deadly sins most marketers commit is send tons of e-mail within a short span of time — whether it’s an affiliate product or launch. People just don;t like to get bothered and I know I’m the one to press the unsubscribe button when I see — “Hey last chance to buy XYZ product!!! Get Now!!!” when I have received that same last chance e-mail time and time again.
Its my hearty prayer that those idiot marketers personalize e-mails for me..and read this post a hundred times before mailing me those “last chance” offers again!

    Hi Mike,

To tell you the truth, i didn’t finish viewing the video. Everything’s in black & white only. Adding some colour and charts or images might help to break the monotony and help illustrate your points.

But, Yes! Please keep on making these video tutorials.

    Thanks.

It is step by step, detailed and a bit interesting. I could not understand why you have stopped with main dish only. Any way, we consume or at least taste many side dishes during the dinner or lunch. Have you ever tested the idea by extending the logic of dining further? I believe you are experimenting already with that idea.

No technique really works for ever, especially in Internet marketing. Sustainability of Internet marketer success depends on how quickly and easily one helps the people to become successful and in the process he becomes more successful. Sadly, many gurus are here, but no true leaders.

After reading the feedback and reflection on it, regarding making it viral by sharing (Kim Stacey), I have a thought to share. Viral has two disadvantages. It eliminates the exclusiveness and does not feed the selfishness motive. If a book is really good and some of the ideas can be implemented by me, I feel even more selfish, not to disclose it to my other marketers. I believe this would be the reason for so many books which are really solid never make the list of best sellers.

The cleverness of the offer is in the book which they promoted– 6 Psychological Triggers That Will Make Your Visitors Buy From You Today and Tomorrow. That book which I downloaded will help in other areas of life also if applied. Above all, the title is complete, specific, and purposeful. People are no more excited about the free PDFs. They are looking for process, and real stuff which they can use for long time to come, in different contexts.

By the way, how a IM would see or perceive his list? Most of the internet marketers, going by the offers I receive, assume that the list is there just to receive offers, and more offers only. Yes, in the mask of information, they try to sell everything under Internet marketing. Unfortunately, we don’t have money to buy each and every offer. After some initial purchases, almost every one becomes skeptical of the offers. No amount of Money back guarantees really work, when the trust level itself is low. Trust deficit cannot be fulfilled so quickly.

As a subscriber to your newsletter, I know your articles are researched and well written. Your response rate might be high due to that factor also. Success of any offer depends on the trust and relationship underneath to a large extent. Any ideas on how to assess my list perceptions on me and my relationship with them!

  13. Travis

Mike.….where do you get the list of emails from to start the process you describe in email magic? I am new at the email marketing

How do you limit the link to only 3 days?

    Thanks!
